We Lost a Son and a Daughter in the Same Day: Pr. Courtney & Erica Robinson
Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever!
This episode of The Upgrade Podcast is a powerful, emotional journey through love, loss, faith, and redemption.
Pastor Courtney (“PC”) and Erica Robinson share their story—from growing up in poverty and trauma in Jamaica, to finding each other, building a life together, and eventually coming to the United States in pursuit of opportunity and purpose. Along the way, they navigate broken family dynamics, long-distance marriage, infidelity, reconciliation, and a life-changing encounter with God that reshapes everything.
But at the heart of this episode is a moment that changed their lives forever.
After adopting a young boy from Jamaica—CJ, a child they believed was part of God’s promise to their family—everything seemed to be falling into place. He brought joy, purpose, and a sense of calling fulfilled.
Then, suddenly, tragedy struck.
CJ became ill and was rushed into emergency surgery… and never came out.
In the same moment, as questions surrounded his death, Child Protective Services intervened and removed their daughter from their home. In a single day, they lost one child to death—and another to the system.
What follows is almost impossible to comprehend: months of grief, legal battles, separation from their daughter, and the emotional weight of trying to make sense of it all. They wrestle with questions every parent would ask:
Where is God in this?
Could we have done something differently?
How do you keep going when everything falls apart?
And yet, through it all, they chose not to walk away from God.
Instead, they leaned in—through anger, confusion, and heartbreak. They share what it looked like to cry out to God honestly, to rely on community when they couldn’t stand on their own, and to take life one breath, one day at a time.
Four months later, their daughter returned home—on the exact day she had prayed for.
Today, PC and Erica serve as leaders and pastors, pouring into marriages and helping others build relationships rooted in grace—the very thing that carried them through their darkest season.
This episode is for anyone who has faced loss, trauma, or unanswered questions… and wondered if faith can survive it.
Their story doesn’t offer easy answers—but it offers something more powerful: proof that even in the deepest pain, God is still present, still faithful, and still writing a story of redemption.
It’s only up from here.
